CASTOR OIL PACKS

Castor oil is a natural vegetable oil derived from the seeds of the castor plant (Ricinus communis). It has been used for centuries and known for its therapeutic properties and is widely used in traditional medicine and natural remedies.

Castor oil packs go way back to the Egyptian time and are a great way to support the liver and the digestive system aiding in detoxification, circulation and elimination.   It also helps with sleep so applying a pack at night is recommended.  Castor oil helps move the bowels, recycle more glutathione and promote neurotransmitter production.

Castor oil packs can also be used to support painful areas where fluid has accumulated & cramping eg period pain

HOW TO MAKE A CASTOR OIL PACK

You will need the following...

Pure castor oil - make sure it's cold pressed and hexane free

Wool, cotton or flannel material folded over a few times

Glass jar to store material and oil

Hot water bottle / heat pack

Plastic Bag / cling wrap larger than folded material

A couple of old towels

Precautions:

  • Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women: Avoid using castor oil without consulting a healthcare provider, especially internally, as it can induce labor.
  • Allergies: If you are allergic to castor beans or any of the components in castor oil, do not use it.
  • Always perform a patch test before using castor oil, especially if you have sensitive skin, to check for any allergic reactions.
  • For External Use Only

DIRECTIONS

  • Prepare the Area: Clear the area where you'll be lying down. Lay down an old towel or cloth to protect the surface from oil stains.
  • Soak the Flannel Cloth: Pour a sufficient amount of castor oil onto the flannel cloth. It should be wet but not dripping. Fold the cloth to a size that fits the area you want to target.
  • Place the Pack: Place the castor oil-soaked flannel cloth directly onto the skin over the desired area. For example, if you're targeting the abdomen, place it there.  The liver area is located on your right side just where the end of your ribcage is and a pack here will aid detoxification.  For period pain place over the uterus area just above where you feel you are cramping.  And if you have any painful swollen areas you can put the pack on there too.
  • Cover with Plastic Wrap: Cover the flannel cloth with plastic wrap. This helps to keep the castor oil pack in place and prevents the oil from staining your clothes or bedding.
  • Apply Heat: Place a hot water bottle or heating pad over the plastic wrap. The heat helps the skin absorb the castor oil more effectively. Ensure the heat is warm and comfortable, not too hot to cause burns.
  • Relax: Lie down and relax for at least 20 minutes.  (45 minutes to an hour is recommended.) You can use this time to meditate, read, or listen to soothing music.
  • Cleanse: After the treatment, remove pack and place back in jar.  Clean skin with water and wipe with towel. You can make a solution with equal parts baking soda to water to get rid of the stickiness.
  • Store the Pack: Store the jar in the refrigerator and take out 1 hour before your next session.  You can use the same cloth and oil multiple times.  Just add more castor oil as needed to keep it moist.

Important Notes:

  • Frequency: For optimal results apply a pack 3-4 times a week and make sure to drink plenty of water to help with the detox process. After using it for a while, it's good to take a break before starting another round of treatments.
  • Consultation: If you have any health concerns or conditions, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before using castor oil packs.

Remember, while castor oil packs are generally safe for many people, individual responses can vary. It's essential to listen to your body and discontinue use if you experience any adverse reactions.
